				<div class="et_pb_text_inner"><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Dr. María Ángeles Moreno, former president of EUPRERA and professor at the Advanced Communication Studies Group of the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, together with Dr. Alejandro Álvarez Nobell, </span><b>presented the results of the European Communication Monitor (ECM) and the Latin American Communication Monitor (LCM)</b><span style="font-weight: 400;"> at an event held in Madrid (Spain), organized by the Asociación de Consultoras de Comunicación (ACD) and the European Public Relations Education and Research Association (EUPRERA).</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This event served as a space for reflection on the current and future challenges of strategic communication and public relations in Europe and Latin America, based on the insights and trends extracted from the chapters of the ECM and LCM, respectively, both of which are internationally renowned studies.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">During the event, the challenges and opportunities facing communication today were addressed. Dr. Moreno emphasized the need to harness the potential of advanced technology and intelligent use of data to drive innovation in our professional practices.</span></p></div>

Dr. Moreno pointed out the significant challenges that Spain faces in this area and highlighted the importance of cybersecurity training to mitigate risks and protect sensitive information.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Likewise, the report highlighted the growing importance of continuous training in the professional development of communicators. Moreno stressed the need for agencies and communication departments to invest in effective training programs that allow professionals to acquire new skills and competencies relevant to the current market.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">On the other hand, the Latin American Communication Monitor (LCM) 2022-2023, presented by Alejandro Álvarez Nobell, director of the study and research professor at the University of Malaga, offers a unique insight into emerging trends in Latin America. Unlike the European ECM, the Latin American LCM highlights the importance of social responsibility, sustainability, and equity in corporate communication.</span></p></div>

<p>The researchers assessed how information channels and sources influence the public’s information-seeking behaviors, and the perception of government’s crisis response strategies in Spain during the COVID-19 pandemic.</p>
<p>Using a snowball sampling technique, the authors conducted an online survey between March 14 and April 14, 2020, which corresponded to the first four weeks after a State of Alarm was issued in Spain. The questionnaire focused on respondents&#8217; information-seeking behavior, trust in different sources and channels, perception of government communication management, and message retention.</p>
<p><strong><u>Some key findings include:</u></strong></p>
<p>Respondents received most of their information regarding the pandemic from television (86.2%), WhatsApp (77.6%), online newspapers (75%), and radio (42.6%). Magazines (7.4%), Telegram (5.7%), and web/blogs specialized in alternative therapies (4.6%) were the least used.</p>
<p>People under the age of 29 got more information than the rest of the age groups from Twitter (63%) and websites/blogs from public institutions (48%). Older participants reported a highly significant use of television (90%) and a very limited consumption of information from social media and online media channels.</p>
<p>People who were mainly informed through Twitter (53.4%) and Facebook (52.5%) strongly believed that the government’s communication caused social alarm, and confused the population (50.7 and 49.5%, respectively). However, most audiences for all media agree with the statement, “The government has not revealed the whole truth,” especially Twitter users (57.1%) and print press readers (56.7%).</p>
<p>56% of women surveyed believe that the government has not revealed the «whole truth» and that it has generated social alarm, compared to 39.6% of men.</p>
